I don't think so, the match could go on forever w/o PK's.

What is the option mate? I think it brings some flare to the game some extra excitement. One may argue that the result is based on luck along with some talent. However during the game a lot can happen with the help of a bit of luck as well. If both teams have had a chance to break a tie for 120 minutes, then it is the best solution. They cant stay on the pitch forever especially that they will have to play another game in 2-4 days depending on the round they are in. So it is the only viable solution although may not get full support from all the fans.

Similar to the answer given by wmp55. I had the first extra time as 9 on 9 and the second 15 min as 7 on 7
To increase the chance of scoring, suspend the offside rule during extra time. Purists hate it but Penalty kicks are a greater evil.

No, changes may be needed but not these. The only one I would look at is the Colonel's suggestion of adding time on like in soccer or stopping the clock as is the case now and in rugby. Edit: It is part and parcel of Origin. Yes, the referee should have blown up play. That he didn't is his fault and he should have had to give a please explain. If we are going to go down to the nitty gritty for time, get rid of the game and we'll play it on computer. Edit: Remember the history of the game Peter. The try meant that the team had a try at goal.

You can't do away with penalties that occur during the match,as for penalty shoot outs how else could a winner be decided after extra time without making the two teams play until one side scores... Basically No,penalties are as much a part of the game as the ball or the pitch...

I think they should because penalty kicks are a bad way to finish a game that means so much. They should just keep playing overtime, like how the NBA does during the playoffs. They should just have overtime and the next team that scores, ends up winning.

It's tough to think of anything better, but one of the best solutions I heard of was to have one official keep track of "quality shots." Then, in the event of a tie after overtime, the team with the most quality shots would be declared the winner. That would prevent inferior teams from playing for the tie and hoping to get lucky in the shootout.
Of course you'd have huge arguements about what is a quality shot. Right now if a shot goes wide by 1 cm it does not count as a shot on goal. I think you have to say a shot either on goal of within 5' of the goal, and taken from closer than 30' should count as a quality shot.

Penalties are always going to be unpopular, especially when England are playing. Quite simply, what are the alternatives?
If they keep playing until someone scores, then an evening match could go on well past midnight.

Yes! It's a worthless part of the game. They already give them 30 minutes after regular time. Either score or keep going till everyone drops.

Only during World Cup elimination games.
And here's the solution:
If it's tied after full time, have a drop ball and a five-minute sudden-death overtime.
After that, there are unlimited substitutions during stoppages.
If it's still tied, take a one-minute break in which each team is required to remove one of its players, then have another five-minute sudden-death overtime.
If it's still tied, take a one-minute break in which each team is required to remove one of its players, then have another five-minute sudden-death overtime.
If it's still tied, take a one-minute break in which each team is required to remove one of its players, then have another five-minute sudden-death overtime.
And continue until there's a golden goal.
