Johnson is the best running back in the league right now, based on stats alone, but I believe that Tomlinson is the back that can do the most damage. That was of course, when he had Drew Brees as a quarterback that could throw the ball as well. I think that this year we will see.

johnson is the best! he's a monster running the ball and he also caught quite a few balls. tomlinson is good but overrated in my opinion. sure he has some nice moves but last i checked you had to gain yards and score TDs...the "top" or "best" RBs in the league don't get held to 17 yards like he did last season in one game. i mean he had a stretch of 4 games w/o getting into the endzone.

portis is gonna be huge this year. the redskins now have the former chiefs offensive coordinator which is going to open up the passing game and get huge holes for portis.

how can that guy say LT is the best looking at stats? he ended the year not getting 100 yards rushing in 5 straight games. for the season, he had 51 catches (last year around the same so wasn't just a down year). johnson had 33 catches last year while not starting half the season! LT will have even less success this year. he will get bottled up because people won't respect phillip rivers. he couldn't get it done the last 2 years with brees and it won't get easier with rivers. so this is the order i'd take the RBs in:

1. johnson
2. alexander
3. portis
4. tomlinson

As far as all around talent....Tomlinson is the best. But when it comes to running only, Larry Johnson is the best. Alexander is only good because the Seahawks basically lean on him, of course he'll get the numbers, plus the line they had was incredible. Portis is good, but he's nothing so special that he could be considered as the best.

I still like Alexander...nothing has really change in Seattle....
Portis next....with addition of 2 new wide-outs...will spread the field OUT....using that threat to OPEN the running game....if Campbell gets a chance to start then you have almost the same Auburn set Format...Joe Gibbs and Staff really got it GOING HERE
Tomlinson...the problem is Rivers is he ready...the 3 games I saw him play were AWFUL

TOMLINSON, TOMLINSON, TOMLINSON. He is the most complete back now and possibly ever. Alexander is the better short yardage back and portis iss the better pure runner and why would you even put Johnson in there, he isnt even in the top 10 now.

Well, it definately not portis and then after that it gets tough. They are all completely different backs that fit into their teams scheme perfectly. LT is a great pass catching back and makes defenses key on him. Alexander is a straight ahead runner and Johnson has great field vision and is great at following blocks and making the right cuts.

well if you look at the stats per game I would have to say Larry Johnson.....although he has not been a starter for a whole season but his last 8 or 9 games last year was very impressive. If he keeps up that pace this year beeing a starter he will definately be the better out of all those running backs. The only ? is can he be that productive the whole season.

First of all spell Alexanders name right. And LT is the best. Portis is overrated, Alexander had one breakout year, and Johnson will not be able to keep those numbers up all season. LT is solid!
