which version?
the Japanese version ended when Sadako was put to rest, the woman(reporter) died in this version
the end of the American version was almost the same, Samara was put to rest. But, the woman (naomi watts) lived, unlike the original version.

The movie the ring 2 ends with Samara being locked in the well forever by Rachel, and then she almost commits suicide by jumping off of the cliff like Samara's real mother did it but she follows her son's voice back to him and lives.
