the laptop starts up by displaying the viao words and then goes directly into a operating system not found. my laptop model is vgn-fs760/w and i do not know anything about computers so please someone help me out here because i am currently in the mid east and there are no computer shops out here to help . i am in the military and its sucks out here with no computer for communication back home. thanks for your help.

Same advice. Either your hard drive crashed, or your operating system is corrupted. Go into your BIOS, and check your boot up order. If the hard drive is first, you are pretty hosed. Desktops, you would set the drive on secondary, and pull your important files off it.

Laptops are a lot more difficult.

Either your hard disk crashed or you might have a floppy disk in the drive. Your operating system could be corrupted, in which case you need to reinstall the OS. Good Luck.

Sorry brother, your hard disk just crashed. Need to replace and re-install the OS.

You've got to find something else to keep you busy. Try praying and meditating. Really good. Good luck.

Remove the Floppy disc or CD from the drives and reboot.
If that fails then you have a problem with your hard drive.

If it was a CD then you have a problem with your bios setings.
