recently had a water leak in the closet, i pulled up the carpet and pad now i'm tryng to get rid of the left over mildew smell. should i use something like a softscrub bleach or something else?

I live in Miami, Fl..it is always humid and damp. Mold grows rapidly...Good old Clorox bleach should remove the mold and the odor. After you do this..use a product called Damp Rid. They can hang in your closet and absorb moisture. You can buy them in any store..K-mart,Target etc..

Scrub the carpet with dish washing soap and water in a bowl, and a hand brush, rub dry with a towel. Leave a big towel over it till dry. Leave window open and ventilation fan. Once carpet is dry sprinkle a few drops of carpet colongue on it. Will smell great!

DO NOT PUT BLEACH ON YOUR CARPET..go to hardware store and get some thing. If that doesn't work or can't find something use strait vinegar. It is a fungicide and will NOT bleach things out, it is cheap and everyone has some around the house.

put a tub in your closet full of bicarbonate of soda this will get rid of the smell

when you mop put arm n hammer baking soda in the water it should draw out the odor like it does in the fridge.

Get "KILZ" at walmart. It kilz any mildew left behind AND the smell.

Vinegar works well...also use in wash that has been sitting in the machine too long to freshen :)

You will have to get rid of the rug, it is ruined.
Bleach is the only thing I know to get rid of it.
