When America was playin noone seemed to care but when any other country won everyone brought out their flags and went crazy. Why is is so important to let everyone know what country you are from. You live, eat, sleep and raise your family in America now. Why cant you support the country that supports you??? There are people dying in other countries so you can have the life you came here for. Why is it so hard to understand that??

I don't believe that just because we want another country to win the world cup means anyone is unpatriotic. If someone has an issue with the basic political beliefs of America there is a problem and should probably rethink living in this country. I think sports is totally different. It's kinda like I live in Virginia in Virginia Tech territory, but I will never be a fan of them. I'm a West Virginia Mountaineer till the end - but I don't think I should have to live in West Virginia because of that.

We all do support America, however their mens soccer team stinks royally. Therefore since you can't cheer for your home team for long because they get eliminated at an early stage, you cheer for a team where your family is from your origins or even a place you like. It's not a hard concept, plenty of people celebrate the fourth of july and plenty of soccer fans have american pride, just not with the american soccer team. on the other hand, you should wait for the women's world cup to see how much american pride there is then because the women's team is, well....AWESOME! people like to support successful teams, no matter what country they are from. There are plenty of soccer fans in Germany that are English fans or in Spain that are France fans. It's due to migration...you support the team where you. For instance, if you moved to Italy tomorrow, would you show Italian pride or American pride? probably american pride because that is what you know. It's the same concept with soccer except that the USA team is not so good and its not worth exerting all the effort in supporting them if the results just aren't there. soccer fans want to watch good soccer and say there was a brazil game on at the same time as the US game...your going to watch the Brazil game because it is entertaining even though you still want the USA to win, it's almost a waste of time. especially when the US can't even score in the world cup, italy has to do it for them. It's not a matter of supporting the country that supports you because you do, just not in the world of soccer and it shouldn't be that big of a deal because having american pride with everything else the usa does pretty much compensates for not having it in soccer.

obviously you do not understand football!
1) If I was born say, in Mexico, I will always support Mexico´s national team, till the day I die!
2) the USA is boring to watch and they only scored 1 bloody goal in the whole tournament, what is there to support?
3) What does the US occupation in Irak or the terrible US foreign policies got to do with it? IF the US shared the WEALTH as it would be only fair that they do with other countries and let them develop instead of using them for their own purpose, most of the immingrants would nt even be in the US on the first place... (I lived there for several years, would never raise a child there!!)
4) GET OUT OF IRAK, U TERRORISTS!!

First of all calm down. The US games were put in Gelsenkirchen, where there is a big US Air Force base. And aside from the base several American families living there. They all raised their flags for the US and nobody said anything to them. I am Italian. I am in this country and own my own company doing business with Italy. I reside in the US now, but that does not make me American. I do not carry an American passport, and I will always cheer for ITALY. If you have the right raise your flag everywhere in the world, I have the right to raise mine here.

The easiest way to explain this is that everyone loves a winner. These people were most likely also supporting the US, but when you consider the history of our country, quite a few people may have stronger ties to other countries. When the US was out, so were their allegiances. Everyone wants to say they are a fan of a winning team and were all along.

I don't like U.S. players therefore I cheer for the countries which players I do like. Go Portugal, see my favourite players are Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Pauleta, and Figo. The U.S. team sucks and were technically not even in the World Cup so you can cheer for other countries, also heritage.

Because you are born in that country. I was born in Wales, if I moved to a different country e.g. England, Austrilia, America etc. I'm still Welsh no matter what.

You can take me out of Wales but you can't take Wales out of me.

andy.f - I admit I'm Welsh because I ain't ashamed where I'm from, I'm Welsh and proud and dont gave a ****
