Looking around, everywhere you look, everybody bitches about American intervention and interference. Should the US adopt an isolationist policy and stop "helping" everybody? No military intervention, no foreign aid, no humanitarian aid? Just sit back, trade with those who want to trade with us, and let the rest of you figure it out on your own?

To a certain extent, yes.

Especially since we are now the only remaining "Superpower", even though I myself consider China to be a superpower.

I believe one of the reasons we are hated so much throughout the world anymore is because we have stuck our noses into things we shouldn't have for years. And, we have utterly failed in our attempts at "Nation building". Every time we secretly depose some two-bit dictator and install a democratic regime friendly to the US, it ends up back firing on us! Even though we do it with the best of intentions. Good examples of this are the Philippines (with Marcos) and Iran (with the Shah). In both cases, we supported a government we thought was much better than the alternative, but which turned out to be far worse!

We have far too many "fires" burning on the homefront to worry about whether an Iraqi's freedoms are being trampled. If that were the case, let the Iraqis fight for their rights as we had to against the British 200 years ago. When we have CHILDREN in this country who are going without food, going without medical care and are undereducated, WHY, please SOMEONE tell me WHY would we send billions and billions of dollars in aid to countries that hate us in the first place? I have no problem being a humanitarian, ...but let's take care of the home fires FIRST!

Great idea, Dave! Just think how well that would work! The price of everything in the stores would triple or quadruple, since no Americans would be willing to take the paycuts neccessary for businesses to compete with current import price structures. We could all go back to riding bicycles, since Americans seem incapable of building cars Americans want. Our food supply would dwindle to whatever we could grow here. The stock market would collapse as international investors pulled out their money. Oh, and all that international debt we have would become instantly due, so the US Government would have to file for bankruptcy! (can they do that?)

You sound like a second-grader. What a genius!

(I sincerely apologise if you are only in Second Grade, in which case it was a reasonable question you will learn the answer to if you pay close attention in economics classes)

In short yes. Lets just face facts here we have a nation with over 40% of the population with no healthcare/insurance, we have homeless people roaming the streets, etc, etc. America has many problems right here at home to adress before we go running about trying to cure every one elses ailments. Think about the billions wasted in Iraq, how many homeless and poor in America could that money have feed or provided medical care? Or just look at the countries we give billions of dollars away in aid to. why isnt that money spent here providing americans with vital services rather than being spent on third world nations half of a world away so their dictator of a leader can spend it on secret weapons projects that ultimately will end up being used against us in some capacity?

P.S not to sound anti-semetic as I am not but did you know Israel recieves of 30% of the aid money we send over seas dispite being the worlds 16th wealthiest nation.

We have too many interest in too many parts of the world to do this. It's too simplistic an approach, "take your ball and go home". It may sound easy but how many of your investment dollars in your 401K are invested abroad? How much would you lose if the U.S. did this? How many people would be wiped out? Sounds easy but would leave other countries like France and Russia to watch out for our interests. Look at how much they cared about us during the food for oil scandal.
