I feel more lethargic sitting around, is there a biological explanation for this? And when I go running, I get tired quicker: am I burning more calories, expending more energy, or is it a psychological impression?

You sweat more so your body is working with less water which is harder work. However, your metabolic level does not decrease or increase as our body temperature always stays constant (unless you're having a fever or something). However, your body is working harder to produce sweat to prevent your body temperature from going up, therefore, to sustain your normal boody temperature. It is this extra work and lack of water in your body system that makes u feel exhausted.

You are:
1) Dehydrated. This will cause lethargy.
2) Trying to prvent your body temperature from shooting up.

I asssume you are a sensible person, so you wouldn't let yourself get very dehydrated, so the second is more likely. Your internal temperature is very sensitive, a swing of a couple of degrees either way of its normal can be dangerous. So your body will gladly expend vast amount of energy to prevent any such change occuring.

yes, you are on the right track when you say burning more calories, by expending more energy.
Your body has to work to keep cool, and less energy when you are cold to put on warmer clothes.

it's not your imagination, there's a word for it ... scientists say heat is enervating. it is the opposite of stimulating, you get lethargic. other animals do too, just watch your cat on a hot day and how they flop into a motionless (more than usual) flattened out little mat!

Its your bodies way of slowing you down and keeping your core body temp low.The fitter you are the the less heat you produce and the faster it is lost so fitter people get less tired in summer

it's your bodies way of trying to keep you from over heating, the less you do the easier it is to keep cool. when it starts to cool off outside you'll notice that you start feeling more energenic.
