my father has recently told me his grandma's dad was a chinese man who was born and raised in Mexico by his native chinese parents.yes that explains our my family's face features.but my dad says i should be ashamed of myself if i call myself asian latina. He says that i'm pure chicana.yes that's true, but what's wrong with being referred as Asian Latina.I owe it to the other side of my roots right? It doesn't really matter to me i was curious.w/b

well, legally you have to be 1/4 of any one blood type to claim it. For instance, if you are 1/4 asian and 3/4 hispanic.. then yes, asian latino, but I believe, sicne you would only be what.. 1/8 or less, that I don't really think you would be able to.

But thats all legalities and the link. What you want to call yourself is really your own business. Kind of like how i refer to myself as korean when I am only half xD Forget the other half!

As long as you are happy with calling yourself Asian Latino, why would you care what anyone else thinks? Explain to your dad that you're embracing all aspects of yourself and celebrating all of who you are. One day he will understand and accept that. Until then...love who you are and call yourself whatever ethic thing you wish. If I did, I'd be a ScottishIrishDutchNativeAmerican.....never mind, I'm a mutt and I love it ! You owe nothing to the "other side" of your roots except the happiness that they are your ancestors. You owe yourself the right to call yourself whatever you feel is right for you and makes your heart sing.

Dad has some issues. What's the big deal?

My suggestion is not to bring up the topic around Dad. but. define yourself the way you feel.

Like Amerisians (American and asian), why not be Latiasian,or Asiantina? I agree....pay respect to both sides. You can't control how you came in to the world..so celebrate both sides.
