First, decide right this minute to get into a very positive attitude about it, even if it looks awful. If it is infected, see a doctor, but otherwise - you're in for quite a treat. Who would have thought it? You are going to be privileged to watch your body heal itself right before your very eyes. The way a fingernail repairs itself is just amazing. It works from the inside, out, discarding what you are looking at after the new one is formed and strong enough. I have watched my fingernail repair itself over about a week and a half, and it is just amazing. And all of this is programmed into your body, this "repair cycle." The best suggestion is to keep your eyes on the repair, as it unfolds. You can be the doctor here, and keep it clean and protected as you get a brand new nail for the old, damaged one. I know it must look awful right now, and it probably aches. Part of the healing process, the aching part. The other thing you can do is take a totally positive approach to the healing process. You may laugh at this suggestion, but it has been found over and over again our bodies repair faster when they have our total support, and it just makes sense, after all. I hope this repair goes quickly and smoothly for you, and that you won't have to be going through this one again any time soon! Sent with strong support from Chris, South Portland, Maine, U.S.A.

First cleanse with antiseptic, use ice to slow inflammation, paint with new skin that can be purchased at pharmacy. Keep a band aide over nail until it grows out. It is a long process but the right way to go.

I've done this before. Keep something over it, like a bandaid, so you don't accidentally catch it on something and rip it off. Keep it clean, pouring antiseptic on it every day or so. Then just wait for it to grow out and fall off. As it grows, clip the end off short so that you don't have that sticking out there waiting to get snagged on something.

It's probably going to turn black and fall off. I have used duperglue on small cracks successfully, and also when you get cracks in your skin.

Your best bet is to just wait. It will heal itself. When it grows out most likely it will fall off.

I think your best bet is to wait and in no time your nail will grow back and you will be able to get a manicure

Ow. Go to a doctor. If it falls off, which it probably will, it might get infected. Get it looked at.

If there is no infection, don't finagle with it. Let it heal on it's own.
