Every answer before this one demonstrates what a bunch of second rate, petty little people the posters are.

This kind of cheap cynicism makes a point about public life and politics today.

Too much of the conversation is dominated by these types of easy negative assumptions because most people are, in fact, too lazy, too ignorant, too unpatriotic, too self absorbed, and to self centered to be bothered with doing the hard work required to help formulate intelligent public policy.

That being so they dismiss those who do make the effort because to acknowledge them would contrast too sharply with their own uselessness.

If the tiniest part of the hours spent excoriating politicians on the Internet was expended in the hard work of politics by the complainers then they might actually affect something. But its easy to criticize and difficult (and often tedious) to do real political work.

They are probably the only ones that can really afford to be politicians. They don't take the job for the money they do it for the power. You have people that are use to being in charge all the time so it's an ego thing.

In the Philippines, almost all our politicians are millionaires and some are billionaires. It is the short cut to be one of the boys or girls of the club. The pay is nothing compared to the sidelines.

Because the way it's set up, only millionaires can win. People seem to vote for whoever has the best tv ads, and can fly to more places. It's really our fault.

They can afford to run and they want to have the power of political office. Political power that will help to keep their millions after they are out of office....

Unfortunately you have to be rich or sell your soul to the rich to run for office in this country. Also it is a power thing.
