Oh, it is easy to hit a calculator button and get the answer as all of these "kids" are saying. However the wheat is separated from the chafe if you can do it by hand!!!!

I'll do the first one for you, but you have to do the rest of them!

66---> 8^2 = 64, so you know the number is 8.XXXXXXXX

So what you do is guess the first digit from the data above:

8 then divide 66 by 8 and you get 8.25

Take the guess and the new answer and average them:

(8 + 8.25)/2 = 16.25/2 = 8.125

Now divide 66 by 8.125 = 8.123

Average the last two: (8.125 + 8.123)/2 = 8.124 and there you have it!

Per my desktop calculator you get: sqrt (66) = 8.124038404635960360459883568266

Ok, here some help for the next 2:

2.5 guess 1 and you get 1 guess 2 and you get four so the first digit is 1

Next guess 2 and the answer is 4 guess 3 and the answer is 9 so the first digit would be 2

I'll leave the rest up to you becuase this is what you are trying to learn! This is called divide and average and is taught in elementary and middle schools.

Oh and williegod, do you wanna bet on that! ;^)

In the old days one had to do this kind of thing by trial and error with long multiplication or by use of log tables now just find a good electronic calculator.
