In my children's school they teach religious education but it is not solely christian , they teach about Islam and Buddhist , a little of everything , which i think is great being a multi cultural school they learn more about the culture of their fellow students which in my opinion can only lead to a greater tolerance of each other .
i carry this teaching in the home also , simply answering my children's questions on religion in a non bias and open way , whatever the question may be
maybe this is the way forward rather than obliterating religion all together ?

There are many, many, many people who are not religious, have had no religious training and a large percentage who consider themselves atheists who are very moral, fair, compassionate people. They live by what some call the golden rule, but is simple decency to the ones who don't have a name for it.

What would be different? We would have no reason to fight about who is closer to God, who does God love more and which group has the correct version of what He could easily tell us all if it were that important.

I have a great respect for people who study and live by their beliefs. But I have a terrible disdain for religion because it seems to go out of it's way to cause antagonism. I do not want this being taught in school because there are too many tentacles to this monster. If we could agree on one or even two religions then we could make it work, but there are many and it always becomes an argument about the validity of each one. This does not belong in school. It belongs in church and in homes.

We all need something to believ in, something to guide us in our journey of growth. Groups of people need limits and rsponsibilities so that we don't end up offending each other. Religion helps to provide some great guidelines, and can turn difficult and rebellious people into beautiful human beings. I am so glad I had a christian upbringing and went to a Catholic school (even though I was not Catholic). It has definitley helped shape me into the person I am and has helped me find the peace that I need to keep me happy and focussed in life. Without it, I am sure I would not be where I am today. Religion for me is non negotiable - I think its an absolutely wonderful and essential thing in anyone's life, and I am working hard to make sure my kids learn from it as well.

Humans will always condition themselves around the environment that they are in whilist they are growing up. The key is make this environment a postive one and I dont think the current way of people having to react to society, just to fit in, is a postive one. In my opinion societies norms and values should evolve around peoples thoughts and feelings not the other way around. It will only end up imposing superficial and ideological demands on people just because they want to be different to the conventional thought of the time. Your examples of school and religion do this all the time, they pretend to help when they are only there to dictate without compromise. The media is another example of one of societies dictators that helps shape the norms and values that we live by for its own ends.

Currently Simon Cowell who appears on my TV screen for Pop Idol is seen to be far more successful than my dustbin man. I disagree, nothing against Mr Cowell, but what has he ever done for me? If he were to not show up on TV ever again this would not cause my life to become that difficult now would it? However if the dustbin man never turned up to collect my rubbish again I think this would soon cause me a lot of hassel! My front garden would soon become a massive rubbish tip and the sight and the smell would be so unbearable, I and anyone else would beg the dustbin man to do his job again! Bearing this in mind, I think it is obsurd when people believe the dustbin man is more of a failure than Simon Cowell. But because society basically worships superficial materialism (splurted out by the media 24/7), despite the dustin man proving to be the most useful of the two, Simon Cowell is viewed as more of a success. Why? Because he subscribes to the medias definition of sucess and the dustbin man does not.

This is only one small example of how one of societies linear belief systems has lost its way because its all about following norms and not creating them for ourselves. If we want to use humanities untapped potential to help our civilisation for the greater good, one thing we'll need to do is stop being imprisoned by the proponents of the herd mentality that religion, the media and school all are.

Time to junk all religion if you look back over the years religion has had a contribution to just about every single war, if this is what religion entails then it is time for it to go.

People have used their own interpretations of religion to get what they want from life, to control others who share their belief and to illtreat others who dont share their opinions they also believe theirselves that they are better human beings for believing in their own translations.

Religion stinks its only for hypocrites

Competition for Money. Greed. Mind Control. A way to keep the masses at bay distracted, fighting between themselves while the goodies are scraped off the top, and hoarded away.

Man created god!
Rulers created religions in order to sustain their rein and increase their power and control over the masses!
Everything in the social machine is influenced by this religion! Thus every level of social life is preparing the people to be part of the system of the tools of the rulers!

It's the fact that all the brainwashing in schools today is of the left wing/feminist type. And it has ruined the country.

I went to Sunday School and church as a child and now I'm an atheist. In my experience people are only brainwashed when they want to be.
