I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my second child and although I try and sleep on my back and sides, I'm waking up on my front with my daughter kicking at me - I'm not due an antenatal appointment for another week or so, but was hoping for some intelligent answers whether I may be hurting my unborn daughter or do I simply push the sac further into my body and not harm her at all?

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and i was told that it doesn't hurt the baby at all as she is surrounded and very well cushioned and yes the sac goes further back. If it wasn't comfortable you wouldn't do it.

The nurse told me the best position to sleep in is on your side with a pillow under your tummy and leg to help "balance" you out a little bit.

The Dr told me that either side was good and not to lay on the back or stomach. He told me that the left side was the best because the left side helps keep blood pressure down whether or not you have toxemia or preclempsia (SP). I was a back sleeper before I got pregnant. I put pillows between my legs and under my belly and had my husband to lean on for my back (if you don't get more pillows). Sleeping on you back will put pressure on your bone, internal organs and your sciatic nerve good luck

Okay sleep on your side. Buy two big body pillows and prop your self up with one behind you and put one in front of you wrapping your leg around it. This is the best way to sleep while pregnant. Your not supposed to sleep on your back because it makes breathing difficult for you which will affect your baby. Side is the best !

Believe it or not, I threw pillows in the bathtub and slept there! I realized later that I needed the support. Try rolling up a lot of blankets to support your back, or bunching up a lot of pillows, that will probaby take the pressure off. My guess is that you are rolling on your stomach to alliviate pressure from your back, so pile up the blankets really high to give your back a break.

Don't wait for your appointment date, you can go see your doctor now, its like having a broken leg and not telling your doctor until your next annual check up. Now I'm not sure what actual harm can be done by laying on your stomach while pregnant, but I know that everyone says not to do it.

She is cushioned by a wonderful sac, no need to worry about her. Sleep ANY way that you can. Near the end, I could only sleep in the recliner!

I haven't heard not to lay on your stomach but I do know that you are not supposed to lay on your back. When you lay on your back the weight of the uterus compresses veins...specifically the inferior vena cava. And leads to leg cramps and insufficient oxygen to the uterus.

"Sleeping flat on your back puts the full weight of your uterus on your back, intestines, and your inferior vena cava (the vein that transports blood from your lower body to your heart). Back-sleeping can also increase your risk for backaches and hemorrhoids, inefficient digestion, and impaired breathing and circulation. Lying on your back in the second and third trimester can also cause changes in blood pressure. For some women, it can cause a drop in blood pressure that can make them feel very dizzy; for others, it can cause an unwanted increase in blood pressure. "

My doctor told me when sleeping on my stomach became uncomfortable then just stop. But no harm was done when I did sleep on my stomach. After six months it became uncomfortable and after 8 I didn't do it. My stomach was too big.

Body pillows worked for me. I laid on my side with a pillow under me and one behind me for back support (similar to the wedges made to help babies stay on their side).

I don't think there's any harm to your daughter, but if you are concerned, call your GYN. that's what you pay him/her for- to insure a healthy/successful pregnancy & delivery.

Congratulations & Best Wishes.

While I was pregnant, I bought one of those long body pillows and placed it beside me, it really helped because i would lean against it which helped me from going onto my stomach.
