When I got my braces on my teeth felt fine for about 3 1/2 hours. After that, my teeth where very painful for about 3 days. After a while, you'll need to go back and get your wire changed, then it starts over again but each time you get the wire changed it hurts less and less. I would say the pain is a very dull pain and your teeth feel sort of numb. But dont worry about it, your teeth will look beautiful in the end! PS: it doesn't hurt when the ortho. actually is putting them on, but after wards.

TAKE ADVIL about an hour after you leave the ortho. office!!!

Actually doesn't hurt when actual braces are put on. It is when they put the wire connecting through the braces, they you will feel discomfort for a few days. Nothing a Tylenol can't handle. This is what makes the teeth move. You will get the wire taken out each month and a new one put in, as your teeth move into position.

well as a former braces wearer i feel i must add my 2 cents, yes it hurt when i first got them and yes it hurt every time the orthodontist tightened them.
so i would like to pass this information along, i am not a dentist, but this is what my dentist ask me 5 years after getting them off. he was compairing my xrays and he noticed that the roots where shrinking. he asked me how much pain and how often i felt pain when i had my braces. the orthodontist was working under a time restraints, so he cranked them up to finish the job, as a result a few of my teeth are in shock or suffered trauma. so do your homework, and if the orthodontist tightens them too much then go back right away and tell him they are too tight.

yes. first of all, it hurts when they put on the brackets because they use heat to apply them and sometimes it burns your mouth if the ortho isnt CAREFUL (thats what happened to me). Then when they put on the wire you feel a lot of pressure on the teeth but it doesnt really "hurt".

SOME people say that afterwards all you can eat is mushy foods, but the first thing I did after I got braces was ordered a PIZZA. haha I had no problem eating pizza even though it was solid.

My teeth hurt about 4 days after I got them.

They hurt a bit at first and after adjustments from the dentists... but they're bearable. You will live. =) You will get really used to it after some time and it will feel like normal, like you had braces your whole life. Anyway, everything will pay off once you take it off. Imagine having a beautiful set of teeth you'll smile at everyone you see. =D

Not really, but it makes your mouth feel kinda funny, and it hurts when you chew the next couple of days, so your stuck with pudding and yogurt for the next week.I dont have them, but my friend just got some, and she said that as far as the doctor putting them on, it doesnt really hurt that bad.

braces don't hurt to get them on. You will feel some discomfort from your teeth being pulled into place but it really is discomfort. Don't worry, my daughter is a big whimp and she had no problems.
