It began as a fad in the early 60s by surfers to replicate surfing. I was a child of this erra. We took a good pair of roller rink skates (mine were Chicago brand skates with fomac (a type of rubber/plastic) wheels. Rink skates have front steering control We took the wheels off of the skates and attached them to an elongated piece of wood and looked for the nearesst, steepest hill.
