Join a professional society (assocation) for your area of expertise. There you can network, learn the customer base better and become a better salesperson. You may be able to place an ad in their publications/website. And when tradeshows come to town that you feel have potential customers, go to it. Get testimonials of those you consulted for. What's your competitive advantage? Figure it out and sell it. Do a honest SWOT analysis and learn from it. Good luck!

You may go for conducting workshops, seminars, technical sessions, orientation programs etc. for personnel in your area of expertise. Besides you may continue your free-lance consultancy job.
