I want to get some books for my daughter who loves vampires *just like mom*, but I'd rather not give her something that has alot of sex in it. She's read the Atwater-Rhodes books and liked them, but now I think she wants something a little more mature. A little romanace and kissy stuff is alright by me, just please nothing explicit. Thanks!

I think both of you would be very happy with a new series of books by Stephenie Meyer. While there is a lot of chemistry between the heroine, Bella, and the hero, Edward....it's not physical. (Even the kissing scenes are few and far between). The first book is TWILIGHT, it was released in 2005. The second book is NEW MOON which will be released in September or October. It is a great book. (I was fortunate enough to borrow an advanced readers copy). More books will follow each year.

They're pretty long books (over 400 pages) but they are such quick reads because once you've started...you don't want to put it down.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova is by far one of the best books I have ever read. It's doesn't focus solely on vampires, but rather the life of Vlad the impaler (dracula) and the history surrounding the creation of vampires. It's amazing and face paced (kind of Da Vince code-esque, but a lot better and well written) but the down side (or up side if she like to read) is that it's long... I mean like the longest Harry Potter long. But is definately the best book I've ever read. Kind of scary though... I had to sleep with a cross for a while...

Yeah, the Noble Dead series by Barb & J.C. Hendee. It starts with 'Dhampir' and is on its fourth book right now. There's a lot of supernatural elements and action, even a little bit of romance later on. There's also some thematic g vs. e stuff, but what story doesn't have that? I'm not sure if it's 'mature' enough for your daughter's new taste, but it's still a pretty good, easily recommendable series.

You might try "Companions of the Night" by Vivian Vande Velde. Several students in the ninth grade class I teach have enjoyed this book. There is some violence but that is basically the only concern. "The Silver Kiss" by Annette Curtis Klause is a decent book as well

Bram Stoker's Dracula is not really explicit, and Anne Rice is famous for writing erotic vampire fiction, however Interview with the Vampire is not at all explicit. She writes with dignity and her book would satisfy her expectations.
