The best bike made today is probably the BMW R1200GS.Its has the boxer twin engine, which is almost bulletproof in terms of reliability.It's got massive power that is tuned perfectly to be used for any type of riding. It is a comfortable all-day tourer, and yet it can tackle the dirt pretty well too. The r1200gs is also a technical marvel. Available options include electronic suspension adjustment, traction control, heated grips and seat, and more.
It's a bike that can do just about anything you could possibly want a bike to do. It's expensive and big, though. the size might intimidate an inexperienced rider. But, you will never outgrow it. it will always be capable and willing to take you wherever you want to go.

The best motorcycle today is the New Indian Roadmaster; it is very
smooth, with power or for the beginner try the new Indian Scout;
However if the price is to high try the CrossCountry ,or Vision or the new
Gunter for the new rider! Remember Test one you'll own one!

Best for what?

If you're a total poser and want to wear lots of black leather to Impress your equally vacuous friends with loud pipes and lots of bling, or park your motorcycle in front of the local gay bar all day and polish your chrome, then you'll love your Harley-Davidson.

If you want to outrun the local police helicopters while acting totally stupid in public on a motorcycle, then buy a Suzuki Hayabusa.

If you want to play in the mud all day, then KTM is a good choice.

If you want a two-wheel Buick to ride the Interstate highways, look at Honda GoldWing. (Stuffed animals optional)

If you want an ultra-reliable motorcycle that will get you where you want to go, and back again with speed, grace and style, then BMW is the only way to go.

Suzuki SV650 is the best all round. The GSXR1000 is the best supersport. The Kawasaki Nomad is the best cuiser. The Yamaha R6 is the best light supersport. The best big boy is the Kawasaki ZX14 followed at a close second by the Suzuki Hayabusa.

Since BMW stopped producing the R 1200 C I would have to say the best bike out now is the Harley V-ROD.

Probably a BMW if you want the best quality materials and engineering. Japanese bikes are awesome. Harley is a primitive bike in comparison, ill-handling, underpowered and overpriced----but good styling if image is your thing. Any modern German or Japanese superbike will humiliate a Harley in any category you can name.

Depends on what you mean by "best."
Fastest are the Ninjas and Hayabusas. Most durable are (still) the BMWs. Most "bling" is the Harley. Most prestige is probably one of the custom jobbies (you know, those un-rideable "big wheels" for semi-grown-ups). Best off-road ... well, there's a whole 'nother world.
For my money, it's Beemer, but I've always appreciated opposition.
