One will be quite enough! They breed like crazy - in no time you will have as many as needed.

I would have thought that your local garden centre would either sell them or let you have them for free. A handful will be quite enough and their population will increase according to the amount of food available.

Get at least two or three. I have an outside pond and we got 16 snails (sorta ALOT!) and they reproduced and how we have lotz of baby snails! And it is really helping the alge and keeping the pond clean! But you might want to get a plant(that you put in the pond like cactails) or a fountain the help but more oxygen into the pond so you fish nor the snails use it all up because if there are too many animals some may die because of lack of oxygen. There are also things you can buy at your local pet store that can put oxygen into the pond. Those are proablly the most effective. good luck!

Snails are asexual. If you really want snails, you would only have to purchase one and wait. Soon, you will have enough and then there will be too many, and then, if that is not enough, you will be cursing the day you bought your first snail and then looking into a fish to solve your algae problems.

Good luck!

According to www.snailshop.co.uk - one snail per 2.5 gallons.
So that's 360 in all. (that sounds like an awful lot of snails!)

One snail will be plenty as they are hermafrodites and breed by themselves. I have hundreds in my pond and started off with one.

at least 2 as they breed well. look for small clumps of jelly the size of a 5p coin attached to the underside of lilly leaves, there eggs.

Hmm, for an entreé I would recommend six. Any more and you won't have room for your sea-snake main.
