The research conducted by psychologist follows the same guidelines as research in biology, chemistry etc. Psychology has been developing as a science for at least a thousand years. Early on, Philosophy and Psychology were linked. While the term "Psychology" is relatively new, the study of the mind is very old.

Well psychology still isn't considered a "science" as such. Even though its been around for quite sometime its still in baby years of development. But the one person who made it popular was Sigmund Freud, he was the one that made enough racket to make people believe- even if all he did was talk about sex and penis envy.
