Why is Tripod a successful Web community?

If your looking for a free place to host a simple web page, Tripod is OK. Does not offer a lot of extras, and does put an ad at the top of everyone of your pages. But I use it for a couple of sites where having ads isn't a big deal (personal stuff, not business). For the price -- free -- it is worth it.
