So you didn't bother to find out first by talking to him rather than believing what someone says to you about a person. Even your friend called him "DUMB"! I mean obviously this is how someone perceives a person to be, and you buy into that way of thinking?

Let your own personal experiences with people be the truth rather than someone else's perceptions and judgments become your own truth.

There are so many misconceptions about deafness. To erase these misconceptions and eliminate ignorance is to make an effort to really get to know the person for who they are. Just because one person signs only does not mean they do not know how to lipread, write in English, nor does it also mean that all deaf people are like that.

I am deaf, but I speak and lipread and can understand and communicate with 90% of the people that I encounter.

So what are you afraid of, it is your own mind that you are afraid of, not him. Don't let your mind control you. So just go up to him and say "Hi" and find out how he communicates. If he only signs, then just get a notebook and pen and write back and forth. I mean how different is that talking on email and IM? It is just a different way of communicating and in no way equates to dumbness.

Plus don't ever feel sorry for someone being deaf. I am not sorry I am deaf. It is just who I am. The only thing I cannot do is just talk on the phone. I mean so what!

so smile at him and give him a wave with your hand to say hello.bring a notepad and pen,,write things down you want to say and you might be surprised ,you could get a good conversation going with him that way and become good friends or more.

How about a little honesty with yourself? Of course your action was intentional.
You snubbed him when you thought he was fully functional. Now you know he's mute you want to make him a pity-friend? How would you like to be treated that way?

Next Sunday be sure to acknowledge him. Even the not so fortunate have feelings too.

Have a positive attitude. If he has any type of relation with you in previous birth definitely he will meet you again. Forgive him and also forgive yourself for your guilty feeling.
You have not ignored him knowingly.

Next time you see him go up to him and say HI, and take it from there. If he likes you and you say hi, that can be such a big lift to him that it wouldn't even be close to funny. I say GO FOR IT
