# Chemistry: Ag2S, Silver Sulfide
# Class: Sulfides
Silver sulfide (or Silver sulphide in British English), Ag2S, is the sulfide of silver. It is black and constitutes the tarnish that forms on silver when exposed to the hydrogen sulfide of the atmosphere.
Silver sulfide, it's also called Acanthite. Acanthite is the most important silver ore next to galena.
Acanthite is often confused with the name argentite. The proper mineral name when referring to Ag2S at room temperatures is acanthite. Argentite is a name applied to one polymorph (meaning many shapes) of Ag2S. Acanthite and argentite have the same chemistry , Ag2S, but different structures.

If the question is: Does silver sulfide yellow the skin, the answer is no. Colloidal silver can cause Argyria which is a condition described as a permanent Grey discoloration of the skin.
