American Pie is a classic that NO-One should cover!!!!
Todays "pop stars" cant write there own music,so they BUTCHER someone elses song.American Pie came on the radio and my 16 year old asked me "who is that messing up Madanna song up?" I almost choked!!!

American Pie, without a doubt. That song is a classic now. It has alot going on in it. I remember when it came out and people didn't know what the heck he was talking about. I remember a D.J. on the radio breaking it apart and explaining pieces of it.
I've never heard of anyone trying to copy it or re-do it. That would be an insult to Don McLean in my book. That song is brilliant.
Stary Stary Night is also great. Alot of people don't realize that he is singing about Van Gogh. It's beautifully done, but sad.

Why American Pie, of course. It speaks of the tragedy that killed some of the best musicians of the 50's (The Big Bopper, Richie Valens, Bubby Holly). Throughout the song, he mentions so many cultual icons of the 50's and 60's. That is, until Madonna destroyed it of course.

The song itself was an even bigger international hit than American Pie. In 1972, it reached number 1 in the UK and number 12 in the USA.

american pie off course because it has agreat story attached and is great value for money being about 7 minutes in length and as much as i love madonna she murdered the song !
