Beckham did well as captain... both, for the team and himself...
The point is, what kind of influence will the new skipper have on the team... he should be able to pep the team up off the field and inspire by the team on the field by leading by example.
I think Steven Gerrard would do full justice as captain of the English national team.
If this happens, England should improve.

Not sure about that, since one man does not make such a big change. But with Beckham being no longer the Captain, there is a clear chance for more football and less celebritism.

No I don't. I think Beckham has been a good captain. He stays calm, he is very sincere and a good leader.
It is obviously time to knock Beckham. Predictable.
I think people who knock him are probably envious of his talents and lifestyle.
i don't think him not being captain will make much difference to the quality of the playing - if anything it will be a set back at first.

It's hard to say, I loved England and hoped that they would win but the shootout stunk. I think Beckham has struggled some of old age but he might still better than some of the players on England. As much as I hate to admitt it I think Rooney is proggressing and should replace Beckham.

i think this just the begging steps of beck hams career ending as a international player. he is 31 already so he will be too old for the next world cup..he might get a chance to play in the next euro cup if England qualifies!...but who do you think should be captain now? I'm all for Gerrard or terry both have great leadership qualities.

England never played good football. Their game has always being: centre and head the ball with, a great spirit of sacrifice. In the last 10, 15 years, players like Beckam and another one I can't remember, they are playing better. Now they are learning to handle the ball and to go one on one.

I think it doesn't matter. Beckham was a great Captain and I think whoever they choose to replace him (Terry or Gerrard) will also do a great job.
What matter's is the freakin' coach!!!

well we can't get much worse, but I'm not surprised he's gone, he was Svens' man, and now Sven has gone Beckham has decided to go before he was pushed. He MAY still play, but don't hold your breath.
