I agree it could be a virus. but if your system is booting up after it shuts down there are several possible causes of which a virus is just one.
it could be as simple as in your systems bios the system is set to reboot in any number of different power out settings. it could be set to reboot via LAN whatever go therought your BIOS boot optins.
as another answerer said it could be as simple as the power settings available undder control panel, set them as you need them.
finally some windows and other software updates that you download require the system to restart following an update. this is just a few of the possible causes that coulod be affecting your system.
see www.mcafee.com www.trendmicro.com or www.symantec.com to run one of the free online virus scans available from these companies.
you can download a free trial of internet security suit pc-cillin from trendmicro. this suite is a great easy to use all round security package.
also check www.grc.com and run the free tools to test your firewall. remember to always block inbound and outbound ICMP and ICMPv6.

This is most likely something simple. Try running a scan with a utilities program like Norton's. Or, if you use AOL, they have a free one you can download.

you probably have some sorta virus...or something. My old computer did that also, but i just got a new one rather than dealing with it. I think my problem was a boot virus.
