Educate! If there is a certain injury that you notice is occurring frequently, research the most common causes, treatments, and preventative measures. If you are not a medical professional, interview local professionals including physicians (especially orthopedic specialists), physical therapists, and athletic trainers.
There are many ways to educate the public. Flyers are fairly cheap and easy, they can be passed out at an event (health fair, sport event) or in offices and waiting rooms. If there is a health fair, talk to the medical professionals about holding a booth and give away free goodies with your flyers/information. If you have a lot of money, you can look into radio and TV public service announcements.

Have ramp access at street curbs and all public buildings. Have audible as well as visual cues at pedestrian crosswalks. Put speed bumps in public parking lots. Enlist your local fire and police departments to do safety talks at schools - from Head Start and up. If you have a local newspaper, ask them about running a regular article of safety tips, i.e., in spring it could be about proper way to use a ladder to clean gutters, in winter it could be about snow shoveling, etc. Get youth groups involved in safety programs and exhibits. Educate, educate, educate.
