Your baby should be OK.....just don't drink anymore alcohol period...start taking prenatal vitamins....you should talk to your doctor about the effects the alcohol may have had on your baby before you realized you are pregnant.....I'm pretty sure that your baby is probably OK....especially since it is so early in your pregnancy that you drank......alcohol does have a significant effect on an unborn baby but only if you drink all throughout your pregnancy right up until your baby is born....do not consider abortion unless you talk to a doctor and HE recommends it because there's something wrong with it.....never consider abortion.....it can do more harm than help.......good luck sweetie, I hope everything works out for you and your baby......

Thank-you so much for stopping the drinking. I hate when people still drink when they know they are pregant. Good Job ! Okay, You should be okay as long as you stick with not drinking anymore. Please do not have an abortion. There is always a chance that a baby will have something wronge with it. It could happen to anyone. Look at it this way : God will not give you anything that you cannot handle. If you are supposed to have a child that is mentally or physically disabled than it does not matter what you do or do not do. That child is going to be born the way that it was meant to be. Healthy or not. I think you will be fine. Just make sure that you talk to someone about being pregnant and make sure that you have a support system. If you need to talk just write to me. Good luck !

It's great that you'll not be drinking anymore now that you know that you are pregnant. And I'm sure by now you've realized that you aren't the first person to drink within the first month of conception and not be aware. I have had three healthy pregnancies and was unaware of them right away and had been drinking, and they all turned out perfect. Talk to your doctor. The first month of pregnancy hardly anyone can tell, and I'm sure that it'll be fine. If you really want this baby, then abortion is just silly talk. The babies that usually have the problems are when the mother continues to drink and get drunk well into the pregnancy. I'm sure everything will turn out okay and your worrying for nothing.

Some drinking prior to finding out you are pregnant is NOT a reason go get an abortion. Call the OBGYN asap and have a heart to heart talk with them.
Women do cocaine and all sorts of horrible things and have perfectly healthy babies every day. Does that mean that we should say it is okay? No. But it does mean that you are talking about statistics here----much of the formation is done in the first trimester, but much of it has not even begun to form YET.....
Please call the OBGYN before making any rash and life changing decisions like that!

Sweetie, there is always a chance of defects even with the healthiest pregnancies but keep the baby. I drank heavily for a long time before i found out i was pregnant and the only reason i found out was at four months i missed my period and took a pregnancy test that came up positive. After that i did everything healthy even did pregnancy exercises. Now, I have a beautiful 2 year old, who knows her ABC's, 123's in English (up to 20) and Spanish (up to 10) can talk and say real words and phrases. She is already sleeping by herself and potty training ( she can pee but won't poop in the potty).
I hope that this gives you a little encouragement!!!

Hon, worrying about having harmed one's baby by something one did or didn't do is so common that it can almost be considered a symptom of early pregnancy! Keep in mind that your hormones are going a little crazy right now, and that can make you feel more anxious. I am not at all trying to make light of your concerns, but it is VERY unlikely that you harmed your child by drinking before you knew you were pregnant. Think of how very many women do this and then have healthy, beautiful babies. If you drank heavily throughout your entire pregnancy, then you would have reason to worry.
If you have just started your fifth gestational week (that is, five weeks from the first day of your last period), that means your baby is probably only about three weeks old, as conception usually occurs about two weeks after your period. As the post above notes, your baby would not have even implanted in your womb until 7-12 days after conception. Right now, she has a beating heart, but the most crucial weeks for brain development come a bit later. She's going to be just fine!
If you would give you peace of mind, you can call a pregnancy care center near you and see if they can arrange for you to have a free ultrasound. Some of them have their own machines and technicians. You can find a pregnancy care center near you here:
http://www.optionline.org/advantage.asp
(And, by the way, they can also give you referrals for financial, medical, legal, and housing assistance and free maternity and baby supplies if these are things you need).
Please just take a step back and think which is worse: unintentionally doing something a bit unhealthy before you even know you are pregnant, or deliberately letting an abortionist kill your child? One you can forgive yourself for and will likely never even think about again once you see your beautiful baby. The other will haunt you for ever, and you will always wonder...what if my baby was perfectly fine?
Regardless of what you did before you knew you were pregnant, you are responsible to love and protect your baby now, even if you might worry a little in the process! He or she is depending on you, and it sounds like you are doing things right. One of the best things you can do for your baby now is just enjoy and celebrate your pregnancy!

I have lots of friends (myself included) who flipped out the minute they found out they were pregnant and started counting every sip of alcohol consumed in the past months. All my friends kids are very healthy. Don't drink anymore and do mention this to your doctor or midwife (they will most likely ask at the first visit anyway), but try not to worry too much. Most children who suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome are the children of women who drank heavily throughout their pregnancy.

It is likely that you didnt' do any damage. Do not consider abortion. Talk to your doctor to give you some peace of mind. Many women do "non-acceptable" things before they know they're pregnant and everything turns out fine. It's normal for you to worry, but you will feel better when you talk to your doctor.
I mean really, there was a time women smoked and drank because we didnt' know what we know today, and babies turned out healthy.
