That seems pretty selective on who's life is important. Where do they get off making judgements about what "so called" level of life is more advanced. It's a matter of ignorance I think.

I don't believe that anyone says that one is more important that the other. A dolphin is a mammal, and a tuna is a fish. Dolphins have saved people in the wild and are a friendly animal that you can swim with etc.. What can you do with a tuna? People are just more of an activist for something that they can relate to.

The life a dolphin is more important than the life of a tuna because....

Dolphins are cuter.
Dolphins make happy squeeky noises.
Tuna taste fantastic.
Donphins have been known to help humans in danger, tuna couldn't care less about us.
Because tuna deserve to die.

First off, there are more tuna than there are dolphins. However tuna (and most other) fisheries are severely depleted and should be more stringently protected. Secondly, dolphins are intelligent animals, and for some reson our society plaaces higher value on more intelligent species. I disagree with that line or moral reasoning, but that is unfortunately the way things tend to work.

A dolphin is a mammal; a tuna is a fish. Humans just have more regard for their own class of animals. Fish are lower on the chain of command than mammals.

People consider dolphins cute, whereas tuna is considered tasty, plus tuna don,t enjoy jumping through hoops. Why do people eat cows, but frown on others for eating dogs.
The majority of human omnivores have got completely nonsensical attitudes when it comes to what lives and what dies.

I never thought of it before. My guess would be that there are two reasons; the dolphin is a higher intelligence animal---you cant teach a tuna to jump through rings! Secondly, we do not eat dolphin....at least as far as I know.

Life of both is very important.
Dolphins are mammals so they have 1-2 baby's
tuna can lay more eggs - have baby's in larger numbers
Unfortunately some humans don't worry to much about animals unless they are going instinct.
For being superior, humans actually are no different then any other predator in a way. We kill things to eat and sustain our lives.
but peoples views are changing and hopefully for the better.
The ecosystem in the water depends on all the animals in it, if one disappears then the ecosystem changes.

That would depend upon if you are talking about the dolphin as a mammal or the fish dolphin, which as humans we do consume. All are important to the ecology, but you need to be more specific in your questions. So which is it?

You may not be looking for an actual answer, but I think the reasoning behind this is that dolphins show signs of intelligence, so as humans we believe that they are like us, whereas tuna do not show signs of intelligence so we see them as food. I guess that's why most of us will eat chicken and not dog. We think that signs of intelligence are signs of an actual consciousness with resulting feelings, whereas animals that don't share this trait merely operate on instinct. I am not saying that this is right or wrong, its just my theory!

"That seems pretty selective on who's life is important. "

Of course it is.
Have you ever taken drugs to cure an illness? Have you ever used anti-bacterial soap?
You made the decision your life was more important than the vector's.

Tuna is yummy. For those of you who say we (humans) don't eat dolphins, not true. We just don't eat them as often.
