You can cut them, and the end you cut, you need to get a match and let the end burn for a few seconds, and do it with the other end, and they will never fray.

I used to cut my shoelaces all the time. I used scotch tape and wrapped them at the very tips of the cut laces. If you want something a little better looking. Buy two sided scotch tape.

First you want to take a lighter and burn the remaining "fray" together, so it looks clean. Less than 2 seconds is all you need. This step can be skipped. However from experience this does give a cleaner appearance.

Next: Take a piece of computer paper
cut two small regtagular pieces (Just big enough to go around the shoelaces to achieve the desired look) and tape the pieces together using double sided tape.

Now using the double side tape, tape the paper to the end of the shoelace.

Last: Use Regular clear scotch tape over the paper and fold the top edge of the scotch tape over the top of the lace to achieve the storebought appearance.

The better appearance takes less than five minutes to achieve.

Hope this helps.

sure all you need to do is wet the end after you cut it rol it up and take a small clip stapel or pen and close the end it will be as though you have plastc in the end if you do it the right waay

or you can tape the end
or burn it but that will be hard to make it look great

Yes! Cut them shorter and thten wrap sellotape around the tops, and put a blob of glue at the very top. The sello tapoe also makes them look new and as if they havent been cut.

What potato guy said. It's not a perfect fix because the burnt ends do start coming apart eventually, but you just get another match and do it again. Don't burn anything else.

If they are cotton, wrap some sticky tape around the ends.

If they are synthetic, burn the ends with a flame - it will fuse the fibres at the end.
