u cannot actually know that. if that person replys to ur e-mail b sure that the person read it. another way is to have in ur e-mail a link to ur website and to have a counter on that website. when the person clicks the link ur counter will display the page from where it came. but if that person doesn't click on the link u will not b able to know if she read it or not

Using the pure Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, you can't so in most cases you can't...but some programs like Thunderbird or Outlook allow you to attach certian "receipt" markers that allow you to tell if they recieved it or not.

Put on read receipt - depending on the program you are using the procedure will be different but use the help.
This will show when the addressee(s) open the e-mail (unfortunately not if they have read it).

When he or she has answered the email . . .
When you get no returned mail . . it means that the e-mail you sent him/her is received and ready to be read . .

If you've got Outlook then you've alredy got the ways before my answer. But it's only in Outlook I suppose.

they charge a little fee but have a trial period and it is extremely easy to use too!
Scripts and read request don't always work. Yahoo! and hotmail block them automatically so they are completely useless.
