Georgie, except for that fact that you think the Tigers will beat the mets =( I like your attitude. Too bad the Orioles and Devil Rays cant come on strong and put the Yankees in the cellar, haha. Seriously though, I think the Jays will overtake the Yankees for second place, but it wont matter because the Tigers and White Sox are both goin to the post season.

The Blue Jays made some great off season moves and are much more competivite than they ever have been before. Rios and Glaus are playing great - Ryan has just been a dominating closer (better than I'm betting the Jays even expected) and Halladay is back to his Cy Young form (10-2 3.22ERA). I don't think it's a matter of coming on strong - in the AL East, against NYC and Boston, it's going to be a marathon not a August sprint to the top. Toronto has to keep on pace with the Sox and the Yanks because the wild card will come out of the East so they'll have to be at least close to the top by the end of September.

I like the look of the Blue Jays. I see it coming down to the divisional games among the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Steinbrenners. Barring a sudden collapse by either the TIgers or White Sox, in which case the second-place finisher in the AL East may be able to compete with the Twins for the wild card, only one team in the AL East is going to the playoffs.
I think the Red Sox are the most likely winner, but I will not count out either the Steinbrenners or the Blue Jays at this stage. However, it would be nice to see the Steinbrenners finish third.
Now, if it turns out the Mariners have really caught fire...look out, Oakland!

Geez Georgie, you sure do hate those Yankees (although I have to agree with you on the Red Sux). Toronto has the team to be at the top of the division, but I still think they will once again be bridesmaids this year, not the bride. I do think that the Yanks will eventually take the division, but they won't get past your Tigers. I think the Tigers are taking their division, with either the Yanks or White Sox as wild card, but Detroit will be going to the series.
Hopefully they'll meet the Mets there, but the Mets are notorious for getting their fans hopes up, and then stomping them with spectacular failures (like last weeks thrashing by the red Sox). So we'll see about the NL. So the series will be in the Great Lakes area, but it will be in Detroit, not Toronto.

The Blue Jays have been semi-competitive for a few years now, but continue (and will continue) to finish in 3rd.
I would certainly like to see the Yanks falter, but once Steinbrenner makes a deal (or 4) by the trading deadline they'll resurface to the top of the division as usual.

in my opnion i would like the world series to be the mets against the blue jays. i would say the chance of blue jasy overcoming the yanks is better than alot. Glaus and Rios are really turning into good players. Wells has also made a good start this year and with pitchers like holliday and ryan they could make any MLB team not want to play them. Lilly has also been a nice pitcher to have. Keep the players i listed healthy and you can definitly overcome the yanks and maybe even the red sox.

I think it will happen. Wells is having a career year. Glaus and Rios and Hallady and Ryan have been phenomenal.
The Yankees are too old and tired.
