mp3 is a software compression file. Look for a conversion tool for converting CD music to mp3's. You might have better success listing this question under "Software" than program & design. I have yet to compress anything to mp3. People that have used software to compress their CD's to mp3's know all of the latest & greatest in conversion software.

Changing the extension is not going to help you much. The extension is a description of the file format. If you rename it you'll only get an error unless the player autodetects the file format and can handle CDA.
Instead use conversion software like lame or Grip to convert it to an MP3. The extension itself will automatically be changed.

To change the extension, you just rename it with the extension you want.
BUT that is not what you want to do, files extensions indicate what type of information is in the file and how it is coded. cda files are coded differnetly to mp3 files and altering just the extension wont do.
You need a program that will read .cda and save as mp3

You can rename it, but that is not a real answer, since the file CONTENT is not changed by that!
What you really need is something called a "converter" or "translator" program.
Just like at the UN, where language translators allow representatives to understand each other, there are special programs that also "translate" from one protocol (think "language") to another.
So in addition to renaming the file, you must use the appropriate convertor to change the file's CONTENT as well!

Just convert it, well as long as it's not DRM-protected. Most apps that convert to MP3 will cost you simply because the MP3 specification is patented and proprietary. You might just want to re-download or re-rip the song as it would be much easier and make sure it's in MP3.

it depends on what file you have...let's say if it's a document file you can change it to an extension such as .doc .rtf .htm thru the use of application programs such as word or by using a notepad. In multimedia one way to convert multimedia file is by using the windows media player of microsoft and save as extension like .m3 .wav .mid etc.
