Good question and one to think over since we're so caught up in our normal daily & weekend routine to stop and think about this.
I try to see my friends once a week. It's nice to go for coffee, dinner, at the gym; and yes shopping even it it's just window shopping. Over coffee / dinner, we discuss our week at work, home issues, problems, dreams and the likes.
It's refreshing, but the real treat is long vacations with your girlfriends where you can spend a couple of days lazing on the beach, swimming or just watching the sunset.
The older you get, the more you are in need of your frineds, but it's not how many you have as much as the quality of that friendship.

Unfortunately we only seem to get together about once every 3 months or so. We usually meet at a bar after work and end up making it an all nighter that includes breakfast the next morn. Would love to do it more often but just never get motivated to take time out I guess.
