While I wouldn't have it any other way, I think you have a valid point. News gets to us so fast that it has become a spectator sport. Obviously, there will be something bad going on somewhere all the time, so it becomes easy to get caught up in the bad news...if it bleeds, it leads mentality. As a result, many people do lose the perspective of the relation of a particular news article within the context of global events.

No, because there was always the bad news on your own doorstep.
Remember, you can always turn off the news and not look at the paper for a while. I am in constant denial over North Korea.
