Muslims don't have the same traditions because they don't have same cultures.
Iranian celebrating birthday and a lot of other ceremonies including, Ancient Persian ceremonies, Islamic ceremonies, national ceremonies and of course personal ceremonies.
Some of ceremonies in Iran are related to thousands years ago. Such as:
"Yalda" the longest night at the year.
"Norooz" the first day of spring while Persian new year beginning.
"Chahr Shanbe Sori" the latest Wednesday at the year while Iranian turn on fire and have some ceremonies.
Birthday of Mohammad the Islam's prophet.
Birthday of Christ the Christian's prophet, because Iran has some christian minority.
And some other ceremonies.
We celebrating all of personal ceremonies too. Such as:
Birthday, some ceremonies related to birth new child, some ceremonies related to graduation, ceremony of espousal, Marriage, etc.
As I mentioned you, Muslims have different cultures and different traditional ceremonies, although all of them are Muslims and celebrating Islamic ceremonies too.

Dont judge Islam by the practice of some muslims, because they themselves may not know the ruling.
In Islam, Birthdays or Obituaries have no significance. Why? Let me ask you, why do you celebrate Birthday, You may say, because you were born on this day, But is it not that you have lost one year in your span of life? So, you should be crying that day! Therefore celebrating birthdays is insignificant.
If you see, the Islamic Claender, it didnt start by the Prophet Muhammed's (Peace Be Upon Him) Birthday. Neither does it start by the day he died, rather it starts by the day he migrated from his hometown 'Makkah' to 'Madinah' for GOD's sake.
This incident, wherein a man left his native place, wealth, dear ones & tribesmen, to complete the message sent by GOD is worthy more than just the 'Day of Birth'.
So if you see, Islam puts more attention into the purpose of life and not some casual events of life.

I'm surprised to hear that!!!!!!!!!
I'm actually a Muslim girl & live in Iran! All people in my family celebrate their birthdays, they eat cakes, bring presents, blow of the candles & so on.
Especially Iranian muslims are like that, they like celebrations, happiness, talking to each other , laughing and.....
As other people had answered you think that we don't have mother day, father day or such things.right? No. that's wrong again! We celebrate these events but in different days as you do. For example:
Mother & women day: The birthday of our prophet daughter
Father & men day: the birthday of our first Imam(Ali(PBUH))
Also we celebtare the birthdays of our prophet & all our 12 Imams that we call them Eids.
We have many speeches from our prophet that he advised people to be happy and smile. So you see happiness is not forbidden in our religion.
The next thing to point out is that Islam is a complete religion and too far from crazy things ignorant people says about it! Believe me! Come to Iran & see!

No point in celebrating for them.
Can't get happy guzzlin beer on birthday....
Can't eat bacon and eggs for birthday breakfast.
No one comes to party anyway as all friends are at Mosque.
So why celebrate?

As a Muslim, we have only two events which we can celebrate..
First is the Ead holidays, which comes after fasting the 30 days of Ramadhan.. and WE LOVE IT!!
And the second is the Adha holidays which comes during the pligrimage season and WE ENJOY IT A LOT TOO!

No it's not true, I am a Muslim woman and almost everyone in my country celebrate his/her birthday. Either they have a big party with cakes and candles and lots of friends around them, with singing and dancing, or they celebrate it only with their own family. sometimes having dinner outside, or a little Cake & tea party at home.
I always celebrate my/ my mother and father/ my husband and my brother, birthday.
I repeat I am MUSLIM and I live in Iran.
have a nice day!
Cheers
