fertilisers are chemicals added to plants to aid in growth, they are generally consisted of nutrients such as Nitrates, Phosphates and Ammonia, if too much gets into a river it can cause a process known as eutrophication, which creates algal blooms and kills fish, that is everything i know hope some of it was useful
