I got diagnosed with PCOS back in January. When I met my husband i was 175 lbs. Now i'm a whopping 235 lbs. and only 5'7, and 18 yrs. old. I was wondering if there was a diet made specifically for PCOS. I need help, and all the normal healthy diets aren't working for me. I just feel like i'm letting my husband down by not being as pretty and "normal" as all the other pretty girls out there....

for those of you that don't know what PCOS is, it's Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. it is an endocrine disorder that affects 5–10% of women. It occurs amongst all races and nationalities, is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, and is a leading cause of infertility. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly between women. While the causes are unknown, insulin resistance (often secondary to obesity) is heavily correlated with PCOS.

I hope you don't get discouraged that many people won't understand that people with PCOS have significant trouble losing weight regardless of how much we exercise or diet. Here is a group for people in your situation. I hope you find the support and understanding you need right now. Please don't give up on yourself.

I don't know a single thing about diets or PCOS..but I will say that you should never feel like your letting your husband down because your overweight (if you believe you are) aside from the fact that what you look like I'm sure isn't why he married you- Some guys prefer women with a little extra meat on them.

My daughter MIGHT have this disease. She is 14 yrs old, 5'7'', 245lbs. She has MANY of the symptoms.

She MIGHT have to start taking Glucophage - Normally prescribed for Diabetics!

I have found several sites on PCOS. ebay & half.com, also amazon, bn.com,

There is a Diet Book for PCOS. The PCOS Diet Book by Colette Harris

PCOS and what is now called "metabolic syndrome" go hand in hand, and the medical community is having some luck with treating these individuals as though they already have Type II diabetes. I would suggest seeking care in an endocrinology department of a major medical center.

Have you spoken to your doctor about taking Glucophage? I know a few ppl with this and they take that. Also, try and cut out all the white stuff from your diet; rice, bread, pasta; and still to whole wheat and protein. All that stuff turns right to sugar and then fat.
