i read it in a novel and the only hint i could draw from the context was that it is somethin private related to women.plz help me and explain wat are they and wat are they used for?

a girdle is an undergarment made of elastic material(sorta like a one piece bathing suit). when worn, it compresses the woman's body in such a way that makes her look thinner. a modern day corset. if this makes no sense to you, ask an older woman to explain

a girdle is sometimes connected to a bra it goes down like a big rap and fastens just like a bra it is use to tuck unwanted areas of the body so that the stomach region appears flat
