I would say that Carlos Zambrano and D-Lee are the only ones that are completely off limits.
Other players that I personally would like to see stay with the team include Bobby Howry, Scott Eyre, and Michael Barrett.
I'm undecided when it comes to Jacque Jones and Juan Pierre. I think we need to see how they play for a full season or two before making any judgments. I'd also like to see how Greg Maddux and Ryan Dempster finish out this year.
If I were Cubs management I'd listen to offers for the remaining players.

The Cubs don't really have an untouchable. Zambrano being the closest they have to one.
Ramierez is probably the most valuable player the Cubs have. He's young, very talented and in a long term contract.
Derrick Lee - Long time prospect who waiting until his 30s to have his first good season. This is the same Lee who once struck out 160+ times while hitting only 27 HRs and driving in 86 RBI. 05 was a really good year but unlikely to be repeated unless he's juicing. Lee would be a great player to dump on some unsuspecting GM.
Micheal Barrett - Good hitting catcher who can't hit well enough to move out from behind the plate. The Expos tried. At least his defense has improved considerably since his Expo days. Best catcher the Cubs have had in some time but far from untouchable.
Todd Walker is a good hitting, solid defensive 2nd baseman. He's also in his 30s and not exactly the kind of player you build a lineup around. Another 2-3 years and he may be a utility player.
Bobby Howry - 33 yr old middle reliever. Very expendable.
Jones - Vet having a good year. Also very expendable.
Pierre - 29, talented center fielder. This guy the Cubs want to hang on to.
Prior & Woods - Always injured.
Maddux - past his prime, certainly not untouchable.
Dempster - surprisingly good as a closer. Jury is still out but he's hurt now.
What the Cubs need to compete is to trade a bunch of these vets for pitching prospects and to dig up youngsters who are going to be future stars. Except for Ramierez, Murton and Pierre I'd trade the whole starting Cubs LIneup if I could get pitching and good prospects in the trades. Why waste all that payroll on a team you know is doomed. Why not build a team that can compete?

something is a threat in immediately's activities international. via fact the Cubbies have not completed lots of something in over a century and the reality that the White Sox look the aggressive franchise, it ought to ensue. The down edge for historic reasons may be the lack of Wrigley field. of direction no person believed that the previous Yankee Stadium could at some point be in basic terms a memory. Such is the international of activities agency. it may be troublesome to think of no Wrigley field or for that rely not greater Fenway Park. i think of it can be a different tale or no tale in any respect if the Cubs have been triumphing pennants and a international series now and then. of direction that hasn't got here approximately.

lee and zambrano should stay. even aramis ramirez is likely to hang around for awhile. but some of the new guys they brought in... juan pierre had a horrible start. ryan dempster is a joke. phil nevin is doing okay, but he can't play. jacque jones will want to return to the twins the way this team is going. and the two talented bookends, prior and wood, look like they will never even combine for a full season between them... and it looks like greg maddux is at the end of the line.
i'd keep lee and zambrano, and start from there. who else is in iowa?

Thats funny, I just see derrek Lee and Wrigley field stadium.
Zambrano was stinkin it up out there too when Lee first got injured. He's basically just the best of the worst.
at this point I'd trade everyone, even Dusty and Jim Hendry.
I wonder if ou can trade owners, cuz I'd trade the tribune company too. Is there any free agent owners out there cuz the cubs are in need.

They need to get rid of Hendry, the Tribune company needs to sell to Ernie Banks,Move Prior,Woods, and Maddux to relief and closers. Keep Lee, Ramerez, Zambrano,Cedeno, Walker, and Barrett. get some pitching to help Carlos, we would be great, but Tribune wont sell, Hendry will stay and still be retarded trade away good players, get worse and blame it all on Dusty....

No one is untouchable on any team, but least likely I would say is Lee, Cedeno, and possibly Zambrano

in this order zambrano, lee, prior, ramirez. the rest are expendable. i could see them moving pierre since contenders are always looking for a leadoff man with speed.
