you probably own the whole thing if you were on the deed with right of survivorship . that passed the title to you under operation of law at the instant of death. they may have a claim for reimbursement for expenditures, but probably no claim to title.

Good advice from Innovatiam. This would have been my answer. A lot depends on the survivorship laws and in regard to their paying of the mortgage etc. They might have an interest there, but, yes, it does sound like you need a good real estate attorney before anything bad happens. Nip this in the bud.

No you do not have to pay them back.If your name is on the deed they can not remove you.You really need to talk to a Real Estate Attorney as soon as possible. Before things get ugly.Have your attorney place a lien on the property that way if they try to sell or refinance they can't without your permission.

Good Luck....

Ownership of property by two or more people in which the survivors automatically gain ownership of a decedent's interest. In the case of more than one survivor, the decendent's share is divided among the survivors. In addition, each owner can sell or gift his/her share as he/she wants, without the other owners' permission

The house is yours, get an attorney. It sounds as if your step brothers are going to give you a hard time over it.

if your name is on the deed as an owner, the house is yours and their is nothing they can do about it. if you are also listed as a survivor then they can ask for a refund of your share.

If you are coowner on the deed it is your house. That is the right of survivorship.
