Both Intel and Advanced Micro Devices make good leading class CPU's. AMD has come out on top in sales due to its first line release of the 64x2 processor model. You need to read MAXIMUM PC magazine. There are five issues to consider for a fast PC.
Motherboard, CPU, RAM Graphics Card, and the hard drive.
Please do not forget about the Power Supply!
Your issue is your Pocketbook! If you do not care about money, then buy the fastest dual core CPU out there, be it Intel or AMD!
The CPU will dictate the motherboard, the mother board will dictate the type of RAM
Buy one hard drive for your operating system and two or more for your data if you want to set up a RAID configuration. Buy the largest, fastest hard drives that you can afford.
Go to www.thomshardware.com to get specifications on just about anything that you want to buy!

This is a personal decision... Like Mac/PC!
Each has their advantages.
AMD currently outperforms in terms of memory management: no FSB=(Front Side Bus) bottleneck and lower power utilization/heat issues. Their OPTERON mullti-processors beat out Intel's in benchmark tests.
The companies tend to leap-frog each other in terms of technical advancement. This is the advantage of competition... Ultimately the consumer wins!

okay first you need to know what does what
HZ is your processor so the more HZs in your case GigaHZs the faster it'll go,
than there's RAM (Random Access Memory) it's a temporary file manager like if you download something off the inernet that's 5MB and your RAM is 5MB than it can grab it all at once BUT GHZ is how FAST it does it
and than there's memory, Hard Drive you have only a limited amount of space on your computer, so
GHZ=speed
RAM=works with GHZ
HD=space amount
