No, you don't need to read the book before you see the movie. The book goes into more detail (of course) and gives more depth to the characters. There's only so much they can put into a 2 hour movie! I highly recommend that you do read the book though. Whether before or after you watch the movie is up to you.

The thing about the book is this. The story is quite complicated and in a book a lot of things can be explained in detail so you can keep up and, sometimes, pre-empt what some things mean and what's coming next.

The film is quite fast moving and although my sister enjoyed it (she hadn't read the book) she said that she had trouble keeping up with the thread.

It's like a treasure hunt and with the book you are right there with the main characters, figuring it all out. With the film you get dragged along with it.

There are a few things that were more understandable because I had read the book first.
There were also a few changes in the movie compared to the book.
I think you can see the movie without reading the book- it will be just a fiction drama type movie. If you can, go with someone that has read the book.

The film is good and a worth seeing. I would say the book is better and worth a read. If you are going to read it, read "Angels and demons" first. It is the book before the Da Vinci code. It is also by Dan Brown.

I read the book before the film came out and didn't really like the film when I saw it. But friends of mine who hadn't read the book really enjoyed it because they didn't know what to expect.

My advice would be to either read the book and ignore the film or to watch the film and then read the book.

Do not read the book before you see the movie.

I have read the the book long ago and then saw the movie.
The movie comes up very short from the book.

See the movie then read the book. Book is tons and tons better.

I have never read the book and i've seen the movie. I think if you read the book first it will wreak it if you go to see it in the movies. because a book is more detailed than the movie so you'll be expecting things to happen which probebly won't.

the film was a major disappointment, although it was still somewhat enjoyable. I would either read the book, or watch the movie; but not both because you would be hearing a lot of the same stuff and it gets monotonous just because of the shear amount of "information"

I went to see the film a few weeks ago, and although I have had the book sometime, I haven't read it yet.
Maybe it would be better to see the film first.
