Pre-purchasing tickets to shows, attractions and clubs will help. By doing this you will not have to worry about budgeting it into you spending money. Monorail is a must you can purchase passes on-line before your trip too. I went to Vegas for 5days & nights last year. I pre purchased all my shows, transportation and attraction tickets in advance. All I had to worry about was money for food, gifts, tips (a must do) and playing games. I took $1200 with me and came home with $700. I'm not big into the games.
Check out these Vegas sites they have great information on food, entertainment, attractions and what shows are playing and what is going on in Vegas during you trip. They also have info on free things to do in Vegas.
vegas.com
lasvegas.com
accessvegas.com
Also when you get there get a copy of What's On magazine it has coupons and other info. about what is going on in Vegas. You can pre order this before your trip too.
Have fun
By the way, What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas only works if there are no witnesses.

Vegas can actually be done on almost any budget. There are meals to be had for very cheap, but you can also go all out and spend a heap!
The important thing is not how much you take, but keeping in control of how you spend it. Make a plan for how much you are going to spend each day on non-gambling stuff, and therefore how much that allows you to gamble each day, and then stick to it! Do not be tempted to dip into tomorrows money, or you're going to spend the last 2 days (or even 4 if you're not careful) sitting in your room sulking.
Have a great vacation!

I went to Vegas not to long ago. I took 500 and came back with 0. But I had a lot of fun. Didn't gamble that much. So I would say 500.

You could get away with about $400-$500. If you're going to the nightscene... it kind of get expensive... especially if you buy drinks.
Then again, Vegas isn't the most expensive vacation place.
If you plan on taking a taxi... bring some more. If you're just going to stay on the strip... I recommend getting day passes to the monorail... its awesome.
I once did a 4 night Vegas trip with only $200 in cash (I paid for the room with a card). If you work it, you can get through Vegas very cheaply.

Whatever you can afford to lose for gambling! Whenever I go, I bring cash for gambling and I keep cash for everything else separate and locked up in the hotel. I leave my credit/debit cards home or I take 1 with a very small limit to reduce the temptation of trying to win it all back. Have a great time!!

My advise have fun visit all the casinos don't waster your money set a limit of 10 bucks or 5 bucks play the cent machines because the odds are you will loose everything you take. That saying what happens in vegas stays in vegas was actually what you take to vegas stays in vegas :)

Take whatever you can afford to take, making sure you have enough to pay all your bills when you get home and still have a comfortable cushion.
Or, just take it all and put it on black at the roullette table...
