The most common problem with buoyancy is air still in the BCD . Make sure it is all out . also a steel cylinder will help or a neutral aluminum . It is also possible that you are breathing a lot more air than normal . first relax breath normal . as a rule of thumb 10% of body weight is a good start . Then try without and wetsuit first . ( Heated pool ) You are also more buoyant in salt water than fresh . Your instructor should review this chapter with you . as for getting a refund . Why Quit ?your tools are there . The instructor has spent time with you does he deserve paid for his time he did spend .

I don't know if you're kidding, but this actually happened to my dad. Not about his butt, but he had such a high percentage of body fat that he couldn't submerge while taking a scuba lesson.

He did get his money back.

That's baloney, your instructor just needs to add weight to your belt until you reach neutral bouyancy. If he doesn't know this get a refund and find a real instructor.

Maybe you can use more weights so that you will have less buoyancy which is created by high body fat percentage in your body. Or you can try exercising more.

good luck.
