You go to the store with one dollar. You want to buy oranges. How many oranges can you buy if they cost 25¢ each? .25x = 1.00 There you have basic algebra. You take 5 oranges to the register and you're short of money. You take 3 to the register and you have to go back to get the 4th.

You want to build a birdhouse. Basic geometry. Every time you balance your checkbook, you need math.
