The purpose of a speech to inform is to provide information the audience does not already have. Even if the audience does have some general knowledge of your topic, an informative speech will give them new knowledge or more in-depth information on that topic. The informative speech does not advocate one idea over another, but remains nonpartisan.
Many speakers - both new and skilled - have difficulty distinguishing between an informative and persuasive speech. You must be able to identify the difference
So based on the above you can keep things in mind such as the listeners what would they be knwoing and what would they be not , so that they can figure out informative or otherwise.

When taking my speech class I choose to do an informative speech about the modern witchcraft movement (Wicca, among others).
If I had to do one today I would probably do it on the differences between what the historical Iron Age Celts were like and the common fantasies that many people have of them today. It is surprisingly different!
If you have to teach them how to do something, you could teach them the art of making smores :^)

You want to involve them in the process, so get a book on origami. Learn how to fold paper to make birds, animals, whatever. Hand out pieces of paper and teach the class how to fold. They'll get a kick out of making something with their own hands and you'll be a hit because they had fun while learning something new.

I always enjoyed those in school! The easiest one is on how to make a peanut butter sandwich. I did one once on how to plant a germanium cutting. Do you play a musical instrument? She could show the class how to play one note or song.
