Ok you know how when you get hurt in your "leg(s)" people sometimes say want me to hit your "arm" so you don't feel the pain in your "leg" So they ignore it, Well that is the same thing, people cut themselves to ingnore the emotional pain inside......and they don't over come their pain they just ignore it for awhile- but when they remember they cut again

Some people...most in the demograph of " emo " cut their wrists or other parts of their body for a few reasons...either to make the emotional pain fade by bringing forth physical pain, or to equalize the pain they feel emotionally with physical, or to basically punish themselves...they feel if they do something like cutting, it will in the end help them to be a better, stronger person, helping them to learn from falling short and their mistakes.

wow, you probably don't mean to sound ignorant with this question but you really do.
i am NOT emo, i think most emo kids out there are just posers - in fact, emo isn't really even anything other than a music/fashion trend. i am probably the preppiest person you will ever meet. and i am a cutter.
it is a depression thing. anyone can be depressed (yes, anyone), and cutting is something that happens when you're deeply depressed.
i hate when people think it's for attention, a cry for help, etc. i hid my problem for almost a year without anyone finding out. you call that "for attention"?

im not emo, but they dont actually cut deep, just enough for them to feel pain...
its nothing more then a cry for attention because some people will ask about their scars, then they(emos) will try to be all "none of your business" about it, even though thats what they want

Should you see an emo kid cutting himself, the proper procedure is to redirect the blade in such a fashion as to cut his stupid hair.

They use physical pain to overcome emotional pain. More likely though, it’s a cry for attention or some sort of mental disorder.

well..my best friend is emo and she cuts herself sometimes and she says that it hurts really bad and it leaves a purplish mark on your wrist for awhile..ugh.
i dont know why people do it though..they usually do it from depression...they dont overcome their pain.they act like they do..but they dont

they do it to prove how cool and "emo" they are! They think scars are cool and they want everyone to ask them about it, or feel bad for them or stare at them in horror. they say that "oo, the physical pain hurts so much less than my severe emotional pain! WAHH!"
