I am answering this question because I do not think you have been given an adequate answer.
.
Of course you are not dumb!!!
.
But just remember that we all have areas or subjects that we find easy because they are a strength of ours. This guy who always gets a high distinction in science probably really likes science so it is not so difficult for him to do really well. But for you it may be a real challenge to reach that high distinction because it is not one of your strengths so you must really work so much harder than he does. If you think of it this way then you realise that you should really congratulate yourself. One of the most difficult things you can do in life is perservere at something which you do not feel comes naturally to you. You may then wonder what is the weakness of this guy because I can assure you that he does indeed have one, even if you do not see it or know of it at the moment. It may not even be a school subject but nevertheless it is something he must struggle at.
.
So give yourself some credit for all the hard work you have put in. In life it is the road or path we take where we do our most learning about ourselves and life. Not the destination.
.
Now I am not telling you to give up. If you still feel driven to try to achieve that high distinction then allow that you will need more time to build up your bank of knowlege. Don't be down on youself. Just keep at it if it is really what you feel is important for you to achieve. Good luck and keep smiling.

Keep working hard and pray about it sweetheart. I'm sure your parents are very proud of you! Always do the best you can, no one can ask for more than that. Let the teachers know next year how hard you are trying for the award. This will at least put it on their minds to consider you!
Meanwhile try to have lot's of fun this Summer!
P.S. You know you are not dumb! Never downgrade yourself dear! Always hold your head up with pride. I'm sure you are one of the smartest students there. If you believe you are the smartest, it will make it easier for others to believe it as well.

Have you heard about punctuation? Capitalization? Sentence structure? If you can't compete in science, try learning English! If you get good at English, much of the world will be opened to you. The better someone gets at science, the narrower their focus becomes. Don't envy that guy in your school; make your own path.

not at all! keep working at it and I know you can get it...
you have to keep in mind though, that not everybody can be the person to get the attention. Just because you didn't get the award doesn't mean you're dumb though. It's just that some people aren't meant to be the smartest person in class. I know this because no matter how hard I try, my twin sister always gets it!

Don't compare yourself when it comes to brains and schoolwork. You are doing the right thing, work hard and get it right in your mind. I dont even know if you are male or female, but I'd say the same to either. You are obviously VERY SMART and INTELLIGENT, so you are gifted, go with it, don't compete, just keep your love of the subject, and conquer it in your own way. I really mean this, Ron Couch

You are caught in a cycle you cannot win. It is not about "high distinction"; it is about learning. If you truly enjoy what your are learning, you won't care about the honors, it is an intrinsic rather than extrinsic motivation. If it isn't about the knowledge, then, yes, you are being dumb!
